Housing for Mansion Staff 

Colonel Jackson did not feel that is was in the best interest of his employees to have them live in the Mansion.  Therefore he had this home built for the parlor maids to live in.  The home is located on the street along side the Jackson Mansion,  It was far enough away to provide some privacy for the maids, but close enough if they were needed.  This home was owned and maintained for many years by Gerald Kershner. Mr. Kershner was the great grandson of Jacob Knecht who was the Coachman for the Jackson family. Upon his death he left this home to The Berwick Historical Society. This home will be open for tours in the near future.

Colonel Jackson had this home built for his Coachman Jacob Knecht and his family.  The Colonel and Mrs. Jackson were very fond of Jacob and his family.  Jacob maintained a vegetable garden behind the house to enable Mrs Jackson to have fresh vegetables.  Jacob Knecht remained the coachman for Mrs Jackson throughout her life. The home is located on the street along side the Jackson Mansion. This home was owned, maintained and was the personal home for many years of Gerald Kershner.  Mr. Kershner was the great grandson of Jacob Knecht.  Upon his death he left this home to The Berwick Historical Society. This home will be open for tours in the near future.
